Born in Japan in 1947 and raised in the southern prefecture of Kagoshima, Takashi Ryuho Ijichi has studied sumi-e brush painting for over 40 years.  He has been teaching in San Diego since 1991 and joined the San Diego Community College faculty in 2000.  

He recently retired from teaching these SDCS classes.

 

Takashi’s teacher, or sensei, in Japan was Yasuko Nishiwaki.

In San Diego he studied with Washu, also known as Kazuko "Suzy" Reynolds.

Artist and Teacher

The Taka Sumi-e Society’s founder and guiding light is Takashi Ijichi, whose artist name is Ryuho, a long-time San Diego Community College art instructor and a leading figure in San Diego’s Japanese cultural community.
