Friends of Sumi-e's 20th Annual Spring Art Exhibition (formerly the Taka Sumi-e Society Art Show) of Japanese brush paintings by local artists studying sumi-e and other Japanese painting techniques is on March 25 & 26. We celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with Sumi-e painting in Casa del Prado Room 101.

Friends of Sumi-e's 48th Annual Fall Art Exhibition (formerly the Washu-Kai Art Exhibition) is on November 18th & 19th.

Workshops and Open Studio Painting Meetings

Friends of Sumi-e's monthly Open Studio painting experience meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month from January to December in Room 104, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park, from 9:00am until Noon.

Friends of Sumi-e's workshop and meetings are held the first Saturday of every month except for September and December, in Room 104, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park, from 9:00am to Noon. A brief membership meeting will be held during the workshop. Please bring your own tea mug. Hot water and tea are provided. A potluck is voluntary. (Alternative locations to Room 104 may be announced.)

Tuesday Painters
Tuesday Painters is a group of FOS members and sumi-e students who meet to paint outdoors, or plein air painting. The informal group meets the 1st, 3rd, 4th and any 5th Tuesdays of each month from 9:00 am until Noon. If you'd like to join in with the Tuesday Painters, contact Gaye Lingley takasumiesociety@gmail.com. Any suggestions as to places to paint are appreciated. This is a great way to expand artistic horizons and sumi-e really lends itself to the out-of-doors.
