Annual Art Show

Friends of Taka Sumi-e society 18th annual Art Show of Japanese brush paintings by local artists studying sumi-e and other Japanese painting techniques.   We celebrate the Year of the Ox with Sumi-e painting in a multimedia virtual presentation.

Workshops & Meetings

Friends of Taka Sumi-e society workshop meetings are held the first Saturday of every month, September through May, in Room 104, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park, 9:00 am to 11:30 am.  A brief FOT membership meeting follows the workshop, from 11:30 am to Noon.  Please bring your own tea mug.  Hot water and tea are provided. A potluck is voluntary.  (Alternative locations to Room 104 will be announced.)

Kinue Kai Silk Painting Group

Friends of Taka Sumi-e silk painters meet monthly at 10:30 am at Leucadia Pizza, 7748 Regents Road, La Jolla 92122. The group’s new name, Kinue Kai, simply means Silk Painting Group. Kinu is silk; e is painting; Kai is meeting group.  (Of course mashi painters are incognito within the group.  And we love this special touch).

Tuesday Painters

Tuesday Painters is a group of FOT members and sumi-e students who meet to paint outdoors, or plein air painting. The informal group meets the 1st, 3rd, 4th and any 5th Tuesdays of each month from 9:00 am until Noon.  If you'd like to join in with the Tuesday Painters, contact Gaye Lingley takasumiesociety@gmail.com.  Any suggestions as to places to paint are appreciated.  This is a great way to expand artistic horizons and sumi-e really lends itself to the out-of-doors.
